The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has revealed plans to raise prices for subsidized energy products to minimize fiscal strains amid soaring international oil prices induced by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine .
Energy Minister Arifin Tasrif said on Wednesday that the “adjustments” would apply to 3-kilogram bottles of Pertalite petrol, solar diesel, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). These subsidized fuels are widely used by low-income households and businesses.
“We will keep an eye on the evolution of the geopolitical conflict. If this continues, it could trigger further oil price hikes, which the state budget may not be able to cover. Therefore, we have to recalculate the prices again,” Arifin told lawmakers.
